In Sub Saharan Africa, we go the extra mile to be there for our clients and provide a partnership level relationship instead of one that is purely transactional. Our products are well known in the region for their quality in the Business and Social Science portfolio.
Our business has grown substantially in the past 5 years, and we have acquired more products in different research areas that made us one of the leading publishers in the region, with a commitment to evolving our content around our customers needs.
Our regional team
Our regional team has many colleagues that work remotely, and also from as far away as Cape Town and Cairo – we keep in contact with one another through emails and video calls to ensure we’re working collaboratively and staying in touch.
We also have team members in Illovo, Johannesburg with close proximity to Melrose Arch, Hyde Park and major transport routes which are taken daily to travel to & from the office. The Illovo suburb has a mixed active lifestyle full of vibrancy and increasingly strong investment by businesses. We have team members who also work remotely from Cape Town and Cairo – we keep in contact with one another through emails and video calls to ensure we’re working collaboratively and staying in touch.
Illovo has a number of major attractions, which we use on a daily basis to keep healthy and well. We are regulars at the local gyms, yoga studios, Discovery Soccer Park and the Wanderers Club which is known for cricket. Many of the team also take part in the Atholl parkrun, a weekly 5km timed run every Saturday morning – we love to take part and compare our times – yes we’re a little competitive!
Our customers come first!
We are always active throughout our Emerald region and often travel around to visit customers to speak with them directly. The Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) campus owned by the University of Pretoria is situated in Illovo (close to the office) and is just one of our many customers who have subscriptions to both our collections and case study content. By offering new forms of content, we’re able meet the requirements of our customers and share research with real world impact. The region is investing in eJournals, eBooks and eCases as we continue to increase our digital content.
Our local area
The Sub-Saharan Africa team is part of the MEA and is located in different parts of the region.
After a day of meetings, the team often visits the GIBS restaurants which offer a variety of food that reflects our unique and interesting region. For our occasional team lunches, we go to Bellagio. Known for fine dining and seafood cuisines, we use this opportunity to learn and bond over some amazing food.
Helping our wider community
We are passionate about the local area that we serve, and in true Emerald style we like to contribute towards supporting our community where possible. Many of the team donate on a regular basis to support the amazing work of charities and organisations in our area. We want to get more involved and become recognised as leaders for driving change, that’s why as a team we’re looking into different ways of how we can commit to social responsibility initiatives together.
