The Northern & Western regional team is strong, collaborative and customer focussed.
As we are not all located in the same office and because we travel across the region a lot, we take time to meet regularly to share ideas and learn from each other.
We strive to continually learn and adapt within the ever-changing landscape of publishing and academia, so we can provide a world-class service to our customers. We always go the extra mile to give the customer what they need, whether this is detailed analysis of their usage or providing support to promote the content they have access to. We always want to know what our customer needs and requirements are, so we can help in any way we can.
We have been at the forefront of championing Open Access to meet the needs of our customers and users, listening and adapting our approach to provide what our customers need.
As a close team, we always come together to celebrate successes and take time to socialize and have a bit of fun too.
Who we are
The team here in Northern & Western Europe is proactive and dedicated to achieving results. We take pride in the work that we do and strive to go the extra mile to ensure our customers are more than satisfied with the service we provide. We work with over 500 customers covering 12 countries, offering Emerald products and services to disseminate the impact of research.
As a team, we strongly believe in the values of the Emerald brand towards supporting equal opportunities and inclusivity to all. We don’t have a physical regional office, some of the team are based at the Emerald UK office in Bingley and others are remote workers. We believe that in order to make working from home successful – communication, trust, cooperation along with a good structure is essential. Technology is crucial to making this work!
We work hard, but play harder
We are a talented team with a variety of different hobbies. From running and weightlifting to reading, playing musical instruments and attending football matches – we are a team with a range of passions and a varied skillset. We love to participate as a team in the activities hosted at Emerald Live, some may say we are a competitive bunch! We’re never afraid to try new things, no matter what it is – we’re always willing to learn something new and seize the day!
Actively engaging in our region
Across the team we love to travel and visit new cities, whether this be on family holidays or for work purposes – being able to experience new cultures is truly eye-opening and critical to us understanding our customer’s challenges! We are a very sociable team, and as part of our roles we’re often out within our Emerald region visiting customers either at their offices, institutions and conferences – there is usually a main library conference each year in each country which is a great opportunity to meet our customers.
Face to face contact is crucial and all about building relationships based on credibility, reliability and trust – being able to speak several languages means that we can get to know our customers on their own terms. Our customers have told us that they really appreciate the knowledge and level of detailed information that we can provide so are always keen to see us, especially when we can help them understand how library resources are being used and what key trends they need to be aware of. We also like to share knowledge about the changing landscape of publishing and often invite colleagues to join our meetings to discuss specific areas of interest and so we can work out ways that we can help them more too.
