Caring about the environment goes beyond the pages of a policy document
We strive to be an environmentally responsible company. ‘Think Green’ raises awareness and embeds working practices that safeguard the environment and encourage a sustainability friendly mindset, both locally and globally. Our four main initiatives include:
- Promoting reuse, reduce and recycling, especially our plastic waste
- Reducing our C02 emissions
- Improving awareness and understanding at an individual and company level
- Empowering colleagues to get involved in environmental projects that benefit our community socially and economically
Our community, widening our impact
We are passionate about supporting charities, foundations and organisations and do so in many ways, from fundraising and volunteering to offering time and expertise. In 2017, colleagues raised over £60,000 for Heart Research UK, a charity close to our hearts, as well as our worldwide Volunteering Day, with colleagues helping the homeless, building fences at a donkey sanctuary, cleaning a zoo, clearing beaches of plastic after a typhoon and teaching 14 year olds about CV preparation and job interviews. These were just some of the many and varied ways colleagues got involved.
In 2019, we're continuing to support our global communities and are partnered with seven charities with the intention of developing strong and lasting relationships.

We are committed to a world where knowledge is transparent and accessible
We publish impactful content from different fields of research, creating a truly multi-disciplinary approach to solving highly topical and complex societal challenges. In addition, we continue to grow our global author network to publish research which makes a difference. We have always been a globally inclusive, applied publisher and seek to publish good research, regardless of where it originates.
Our commitment is to offer transparent, accessible products with the flexibility that ensures the right content goes to the right people. We also publish research in the areas of sustainability, ethics and social responsibility, here are just some of the titles we publish:
Our new Emerald Open Research platform makes peer-reviewed content in key themes aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals available to all, and allows researchers to publish their content in seven days on average.
Our Good Practice, Mind Tools and Towards Maturity brands also offer great tools and support to our corporate partners, helping leaders at all levels in an organisation make smarter and evidence-led choices.
We encourage colleagues to make a difference
We recognise that our colleagues' passion goes above and beyond the day job and we want to give them opportunities to get involved in ways they can create a bigger impact. Whether it’s taking part in our volunteering programmes, charity work or just taking advantage of the many development and mentoring schemes here at Emerald, participation and involvement is always encouraged.
The Emerald Foundation
The Emerald Foundation, the charitable arm of Emerald Group, was established in 2008 by the owner, Keith Howard OBE, who wished to support charities in West Yorkshire where the company was founded.
