A wider impact in our communities

As a global business, we’re passionate about making a difference and changing lives through learning. Together, we can provide opportunities for people to grow, and impact society in a way that helps build a long term and prosperous future for all. Acting ethically in everything we do remains at the heart of our vision and our responsible business approach is a key driver in achieving this. Led by global societal challenges identified by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we are committed to actions that drive positive change within all our communities. This means working with all stakeholders to support Education, Equity (ED&I) and the Environment. We are proud to be a founding signatory of the SDG Publisher Compact.

Emerald’s Charity of the Year

We are passionate about supporting charities, foundations and organisations that link to Emerald’s core business purpose. In 2021, Emerald is supporting a charity focussed on education which helps to tackle racism throughout the UK.

In 2020, we raised £15,000 for our Charities of the Year, including NHS Charities Together in support of Covid-19 and dedicated time to our communities through volunteering and fundraising initiatives.

We encourage colleagues to make a difference

We recognise that our colleagues' passion goes above and beyond the day job and we want to give them opportunities to get involved in ways they can create a bigger impact. Whether it’s taking part in our volunteering programmes, charity work or just taking advantage of the many development and mentoring schemes here at Emerald, participation and involvement is always encouraged. Each employee, regardless of location has two volunteering days to use per annum on an activity of their choice – we also have an Emerald Volunteering Day!

Stay Up for Homeless Young People

In 2020, Centrepoint was unable to host their national Sleep Out event, a 15-year fundraising tradition that brings in hundreds of thousands of pounds for homeless young people. But with the Coronavirus crisis pushing more and more young people onto the streets, they had to do something to reduce their loss of income…

So the first ever virtual Stay Up event was born! One night of no sleep from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., and then the challenge of having to work as normal that morning. So on October 8th, that’s what 15 Emerald Group employees did, raising £3,432 for Centrepoint.

Throughout the night we ran all sorts of activities to keep ourselves awake; quizzes, HIIT workouts, a book club, and a DJ session. It wasn’t easy, but it was a lot of fun!

“I'm so proud of our night of fundraising over £3k! Well done, everybody!”
“Have loved this! Great night with great people for a great cause!”
“Yeah, thank you all, it was a great cause to be a part of and good to get to know you all!”

Virtual Fundraising Day for the Association of NHS Charities

During the Covid-19 pandemic whilst employees were in lockdown on we decided to host our first virtual fundraising day on the 6th of May for Emerald Group employees across our global network raising £1,454 for the NHS Charities Together.

Caring about the environment goes beyond the pages of a policy document

We strive to be an environmentally responsible company. ‘Think Green’ raises awareness and embeds working practices that safeguard the environment and encourage a sustainability friendly mindset, both locally and globally. Our four main initiatives include:

  • Promoting reuse, reduce and recycling, especially our plastic waste
  • Reducing our C02 emissions
  • Improving awareness and understanding at an individual and company level
  • Empowering colleagues to get involved in environmental projects that benefit our community socially and economically
Encouraging local wildlife

“Emerald strives to make a positive impact around the world. For more than fifty years, our ethos has been to make a difference through connecting research and practice to make a difference to real world problems, as well as taking responsibility and working collaboratively with our partners, communities and colleagues, both locally and globally.

Looking ahead, we will continue to partner for positive change, lead in being a fair and transparent employer and support under represented voices, while aligning our mission to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

We are Emerald, and we’ve always been about that, genuinely caring about doing the right things to build a better, more sustainable future for everybody.”
